Tucked away in East Hamtpon, their lives a reclusive pair of mother and daughter just trying to live. They live in filth, surrounded by 52 stray cats and raccoons. Their glorious mansion, called Grey Gardens is now a filthy hell-hole. They are being pursued by health officials who are trying to deem Grey Gardens uninhabitable. But the women cannot bear to leave... Grey Gardens used to be the most talked-about house in East Hampton. Loved for its inhabitants and lavish parties. In 1941, Little Edie Beale was the it-girl of the summer set, casually walking from the waves to greet a group of ogling boys, or walking arm-and-arm along the beach with her girlfriends. And her mother, Edith Beale, was a glamorous aspiring singer, always entertaining guests and making herself the life of the party. The Beales, as well as the other families in East Hampton, had their secrets, as well. Their troubles, their drama, the deceit and lies that went hand-in-hand with the glamorously sexy life of the social elite. It drove some to leave East Hamtpon,. But as you look out on the ocean, colored like sapphires, or the gardens, blooming around the grey walls...who could ever bear to leave?
